Latin America’s best for consumer lending 2026: Banco Azteca

In developing economies, it is easy for banks to focus on wealthier customers in cities, working in the formal sector and forget about the bulk of the population. Mexican Banco Azteca is a prominent example of a lender that has taken a different route, providing much smaller loans to a wider proportion of the population than most other big banks.

Like its smaller rival Bancoppel, Azteca’s origins are in store-based financing of white goods.
