Questrade claims first-in-Canada AI account access as brokerage rivalry intensifies
Toronto-based wealthtech provider d1g1t announced its own MCP server on July 20, 2026 (days before Questrade’s announcement) linking its enterprise wealth management platform directly to Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot. d1g1t is an advisor-facing technology platform while Questrade is connecting retail client accounts on a consumer-facing basis.
The first half of 2026 has seen a wave of MCP-based financial tools reach consumers globally, with US retail broker Robinhood launching agentic trading via MCP in May 2026, routing orders through a separate, pre-funded account. Questrade’s move represents the first equivalent push from a Canadian-based retail brokerage, though the market is moving quickly and the window for any firm to claim first-mover status is narrowing.
Financial automation, Pre-IPO
Beyond AI connectivity, Questrade is launching a product it calls Flows, described as Canada’s first native financial automation engine. The tool lets clients describe an investment strategy in plain language, after which the system constructs and executes the automation, placing trades on their behalf.
Questrade also says that it is offering “Canada’s first self-directed investing offering of true Pre-IPO access.”
In May 2026, Wealthsimple launched its IPO Access feature, allowing clients to request shares in select Canadian and US companies at the IPO offering price, with no minimum order and no additional fee, predating Questrade’s announcement by several weeks.
