Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tendered his resignation on Saturday, July 25, amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest on National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam paper leaks. His resignation came after CJP leaders gave a 24 to 48 hour deadline to sack Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, following meeting with Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh.

His resignation came amid intensifying pressure on the central government to take action on repeated incidents of paper leaks associated with different exams. Alleged irregularities in national entrance examinations were among the core issue of the the CJP protest, led by Abhijeet Dipke and activist Sonam Wangchuk.

While tendering his resignation, Pradhan, cited his intentions of anti-national forces to not take advantage of the situation.

“…To ensure that anti-national elements are not benefitted by the situation at Jantar Mantar and across the country, that the nation remains united, students in India do not get tangled in legal complexities and focus on their studies and their career, I have tendered my resignation to the Prime Minister..,” read a letter shared by Pradhan on X.

Underlining the government’s effort to tackle NEET paper leak situation with utmost sincerity, he mentioned that he handled the issue with “accountability”.

“From day one, I handled this responsibility with accountability and never turned my back oTh n the situation. My resolve was to ensure that no meritorious student’s prospects were ruined due to the exam mafia, and that no injustice was done to any student,” read the letter.

“My Young Friends,

I have been dedicated to students, teachers, and education reform for over four decades. It has always been my firm belief that a strong, inclusive, and forward-looking education system forms the foundation of a powerful nation.

I hold deep respect for the aspirations, sentiments, and legitimate expectations of the country’s youth. Fulfilling the dreams of India’s younger generation has been the moral resolve of my political and social life. I express my gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister for the opportunity to serve the nation under his visionary leadership.

However, irregularities were detected in the NEET-UG examination held on May 3, 2026. Taking immediate cognizance, the Government of India handed over the investigation to the CBI, cancelled the exam, and announced a re-examination date. Additionally, it was decided that from next year, this exam will be transitioned to a CBT (Computer-based-test) mode.

During this period, our primary focus remained ensuring that the examination for over 20 lakh students was conducted smoothly. Under a “whole of government approach,” the central government, state governments, and especially district administrations played crucial roles. Along with the cooperation of students and parents, the exam was successfully completed on June 21, 2026.

From day one, I handled this responsibility with accountability and never turned my back on the situation. My resolve was to ensure that no meritorious student’s prospects were ruined due to the exam mafia, and that no injustice was done to any student.

The NEET-UG results declared on July 16 were encouraging, with several meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds achieving success.

However, even during this process, individuals occupying responsible positions attempted to create hurdles and mislead students, which caused me immense pain.

I have always held unwavering faith in the power of democracy and have deeply respected the aspirations, dreams, and expectations of the youth. They are not merely the future of India, but the carriers, creators, and architects of a new and developed India.

Watching the developments over the past 10 days has pained my heart. This is not a matter of my personal prestige.

The youth power of India is the true strength of this nation.

My resolve is to not let the country’s youth power fall into a web of confusion.

To ensure that anti-national forces do not exploit the situation that has arisen at Jantar Mantar and across the country, that national unity remains intact, that no student’s future gets tangled in legal complexities, and that our children invest their time in studying and focusing on their careers-after considering all these factors, I have submitted my resignation to the Honorable Prime Minister.

I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister for his guidance, trust, and continuous support. I also extend my sincere thanks to my esteemed colleagues in the Council of Ministers, officials and staff of the Ministry, and everyone with whom I had the privilege to work. Service to the nation remains the highest priority of my life, and I will stay forever dedicated to it.

With the blessings of Lord Shri Jagannath, I will continue to dedicate myself in every possible way in the future to serve Bharat Mata, the people of Odisha, and fulfill the aspirations of the country’s youth.

Sonam Wangchuk Breaks Fast After 26 Days

Few days ago activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his indefinite hunger strike after the government assured him that his demands would be met.He announced the end of his fast after Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh met him at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram around midnight on Thursday and conveyed the government’s assurances.
